Contents
Appearance and Character
Cellador has a strong tendency to alcoholism.[1] He wears a seven-sided crystal around his neck.[3]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Cellador attends the brothers of the Night's Watch who believe in the Faith of the Seven when they say their vows.[1] After Castle Black learns of the arrest of Lord Eddard Stark, Jon Snow's friends ask Cellador to light a candle for Jon's father.[4]
A Storm of Swords
With his drunken prayers Cellador takes part in the defense of the Wall against the wildlings of Mance Rayder.[5][6] After the arrest of Jon by Janos Slynt's men, Cellador supports the accusations against Jon, who had taken his oath in front of a weirwood. Cellador doubts Jon's sincerity because he believes in the old gods also worshipped by the wildlings. His protests are overridden by Maester Aemon.[7]
A Dance with Dragons
Like Bowen Marsh, Septon Cellador is opposed to many of the decisions Jon Snow makes as the new Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, such as making Satin his squire, learning about wights, and bringing the wildlings of Tormund south of the Wall. Cellador is still often in his cups.[8][9]
Quotes by Cellador
Jon: My lord father used to tell me that a man must know his enemies. We understand little of the wights and less about the Others. We need to learn.
Cellador: I think this most unwise, Lord Snow. I shall pray to the Crone to lift her shining lamp and lead you down the path of wisdom.[8]—Jon Snow and Cellador

Quotes about Cellador
Hungry was not the word Jon would have used. Septon Cellador appeared confused and groggy and in dire need of some scales from the dragon that had flamed him, whilst First Builder Othell Yarwyck looked as if he had swallowed something he could not quite digest.[8]

Behind the Scenes
Given his tendency to alcoholism, Cellador's name is likely a word play on "cellar door".
