Daemon Sand, known as the Bastard of Godsgrace, is the bastard son of Ser Ryon Allyrion, the heir of House Allyrion. The knight is one of Dorne's finest swords.[3]

Appearance
Daemon is handsome, with a strong jaw, sky blue eyes, and light sandy brown hair. He has a close-cropped beard, and dimples appear when he smiles.[3]
Daemon is tall and gallant on horseback.[3]
History
Daemon is not much older than Princess Arianne Martell.[3] He took her maidenhead when they were both fourteen years old,[4] and their couplings had been both clumsy and ardent. Arianne recalls that it had been sweet.[3] Although her father Doran, Prince of Dorne, eventually learned of this, he did not react to it.[4] Daemon asked Doran for Arianne's hand, but was refused,[5] and relations between Daemon and Arianne were not the same after.[3]
Daemon squired for Prince Oberyn Martell,[6] and received his knighthood from the Red Viper himself.[3] There are rumors he also became Oberyn's lover, though this is seldom said to his face.[3]
Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
Ser Daemon is part of the nobles and knights that accompany Prince Oberyn Martell to King's Landing to take his place on the small council, as had been negotiated by Oberyn's brother, Doran.[7] When Oberyn champions Tyrion's cause in a trial by combat, Daemon and Lord Dagos Manwoody attend the Red Viper.[8]
A Feast for Crows
After Oberyn's death at the hands of Ser Gregor Clegane, Daemon sends a raven to Nymeria Sand, telling of the fates of her father and the Mountain.[9] When Daemon returns to Dorne, he is swiftly imprisoned by Doran for demanding that the already-imprisoned Sand Snakes be set free.[6]
A Dance with Dragons
Doran frees Daemon, Obara, Tyene, and Nymeria Sand. The knight is present at the feast when Ser Balon Swann of the Kingsguard arrives in Sunspear to deliver the Mountain's skull. When Ricasso raises a toast to King Tommen I Baratheon, Daemon declines the toast.[10]
The Winds of Winter

Daemon becomes the sworn shield to Princess Arianne Martell, traveling with her and her companions to the Stormlands to meet with Lord Jon Connington and the alleged Prince Aegon Targaryen. On the way to Ghost Hill, Daemon informs Arianne what he knows of Jon Connington. At Ghost Hill, Arianne attempts to seduce Daemon, but he rejects her, as Doran had considered his bastard status unworthy of her hand. Instead, they talk of whether Aegon could be who he claims to be, an idea that Daemon rejects. From Ghost Hill, Arianne and her companions sail across the Sea of Dorne to Cape Wrath. Aboard the Peregrine, Daemon defeats Arianne in a game of cyvasse, and mocks her strategy. Arianne is frustrated by the fact that Prince Doran assigned Daemon as her shield, despite knowing of their history together.[3]
At Weeping Town, Daemon gathers rumors for Arianne. From there, the company sets out for Mistwood, traveling by horse through the rainwood. They take shelter from the rain in a cave, and Arianne loses another game of cyvasse to Daemon. They are about to sleep when Arianne realizes that her cousin, Elia Sand, has not returned from exploring the cave. Daemon accompanies Arianne while the company searches for Elia, and they discover carvings of the children of the forest on the cave walls. The others find Elia, and after Arianne berates her, she asks Daemon why Doran inflicted the wild girl on her. Daemon jokingly suggests that perhaps it was revenge. From Mistwood, they are escorted by members of the Golden Company to Griffin's Roost, and Arianne overhears that the sellswords plan to take Storm's End. Both she and Daemon are perplexed why they would do so, but soon realize taking a great stronghold would make the realm consider Connington and his pretender more seriously. At Griffin's Roost, Haldon Halfmaester informs Arianne that they have taken Storm's End, and they will bring her there by ship the next morning. Daemon advises Arianne to refuse them, and send him to Storm's End in her stead, so that if Lord Mace Tyrell recaptures the castle, he will be considered just some knight, and there will be no proof that Dorne conspired with the pretender. However, Arianne reminds him that Doran entrusted her with the task of discovering the truth about Aegon, and she will go.[11]
