A Dance with Dragons
Ser Patrek loses his lands in southern Westeros when King Stannis Baratheon sails for the Wall.[5] When Stannis marches for the battle beneath the Wall, Ser Patrek remains at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea with Queen Selyse Florent. Patrek accompanies her to Castle Black, is prepared to fight Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun, and escorts Selyse to the King's Tower.[2] He commands the queen's men protecting Selyse at the castle.[3]
Thinking he would have made a better husband for Alys Karstark than Sigorn, Patrek is angry during their wedding. He is hostile toward Satin and has become smitten with Val.[5][3]
When Selyse decides that Patrek should marry Val, Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, explains that free folk must be stolen, showing the man's strength.[4] Patrek is later slain at Hardin's Tower, where Val is staying, killed by Wun Wun. After tearing off the knight's sword arm, the giant smashes Patrek's body against the tower, ruining the knight's head. Jon attempts to calm Wun Wun, but the Lord Commander is then stabbed in the mutiny at Castle Black.[4]
Behind the Scenes
Patrek of King's Mountain is named after a friend of George R. R. Martin, Patrick St. Denis of Montreal. Patrick is a fan of the Dallas Cowboys American football team (whose logo is a blue star), while George supports the rival New York Giants.[6]

—thoughts of Jon Snow
Axell: Ser Patrek feels he would have made a better match for Lady Alys. His lands were lost to him when he came north.
Jon: There are many in this hall who have lost far more than that, and more who have given up their lives in service to the realm. Ser Patrek should count himself fortunate.[5]—Axell Florent and Jon Snow
