Help:Categories Overview

This page gives an overview of all the categories used in this wiki and of their respective relations. If you're adding pages or images to the wiki, you often need to assign them a category, and it would be really nice if you take this overview into account :) for information on how to add categories see Help:Categories.

As a rule of thumb, you only need to add the lowest subcategory to a new page, which connects it to the rest of the category tree, This category hierarchy helps you to determine which suitable categories exist, also check articles on similar topics(by looking at the category list at the bottom of those articles), or ask we always happy to help ;)

Main

Top-level category, All other categories/pages on the wiki are found below it.

Subcategories of Main:	Used for:
Content	Includes all content articles and their categories.
Editing Resources	Help, Administrative and Maintenance resources for the editors
Images	All uploaded images should be in this category or a subcategory thereof.
Users	Optional "community" category.
Portal	Includes the Main page, Portals and included pages(like quote of the day).

Characters	Lists all the known Characters in the universe.
Culture	Cultural aspects of SoIaF World
History	Historic events and overview.
Houses	All houses.
Geography	The lay of the lands
Products	The lay of the lands

Events	Other miscellaneous occurrences.
Wars	Armed conflicts.
Battles	Individual military engagements within a greater conflict.
Tourneys	Competitive tournaments.

Subcategories of Houses:	Used for:
Houses by region	Geographic association of the House.
Houses by status	Noble, knightly, or extinct.

Subcategories of Editing Resources:	Used for:
Templates	all templates used on the wiki located here or subed here according to their purpose/type.
Help	Includes all help pages and resources.
Articles requested for deletion	Automatic category, that contain all pages which was marked for Deletation.
Articles that are Stubs	Automatic category, that contain all pages which was marked as Stubs.
Articles that need Cleanup	Automatic category, that contain all pages which was marked as needs Cleanup.
Articles to be updated	Automatic category, that contain all pages which was marked as needs update.

Character Images	self explanatory
Coat of arms images	self explanatory
Images By Artist
TV Adaptation Images	includes all Images from the HBO TV Adaptation. note that by adding the {{Copyright tags|type=tv}} on the image page it's auto added here.
Cover Images	all book and other products cover Images, those are considered fair uses. note that by adding the {{Copyright tags|type=cover}} on the image page it's auto added here.
