Dickon Tarly is the second son and fifth child of Lord Randyll Tarly and Lady Melessa Florent. Since his less martial older brother Samwell has joined the Night's Watch, he is the heir to Horn Hill. Dickon is a young squire.
In the television adaptation Game of Thrones, Dickon is portrayed by Freddie Stroma in Season 6 and Tom Hopper in Season 7.
Dickon is a bold and vigorous youth.
Dickon was born at Horn Hill, the second son of Lord Randyll Tarly and Lady Melessa Florent. As a babe, Dickon's mother used to sing her son to sleep, alongside her eldest son Samwell. Randyll soon put an end to it, fearing that the "soft septon's songs" would make his second son soft, like Samwell. Lord Randyll eventually turned his attention to Dickon and started to groom him as his heir after he was repeatedly disappointed by Samwell. This grooming included taking Dickon along when Randyll left Horn Hill and requesting his presence when Lord Randyll held audiences.
After Lord Randyll forces Samwell to join the Night's Watch, Dickon becomes the heir apparent to Horn Hill.
A Storm of Swords
During his march beyond the Wall, Samwell Tarly thinks his little brother is safe at Horn Hill with their mother and sisters, not knowing Dickon is actually marching to war alongside their father. Samwell later recalls the time he and his mother sang to baby Dickon to lull him to sleep.
A Feast for Crows
When House Tarly marched to support Renly Baratheon's claim to the Iron Throne, Dickon was among the force mustered at Highgarden. During the march, he reported to his father the wager for Brienne of Tarth's maidenhead that several young knights had begun. Dickon is now betrothed to Eleanor Mooton, the eldest daughter of William Mooton, Lord of Maidenpool.
Samwell thinking his little brother is still at home, is happy to the thought of seeing him and his sisters again.
