Gods Eye river
The Gods Eye river is a river in the southern riverlands and western crownlands. The river's name is not published in A Clash of Kings.
Geography
Beginning at the great lake called the Gods Eye, the unnamed flows south to the Blackwater Rush.
Although not as well made as the kingsroad, a reliable track runs along the eastern shore of the river to an unnamed town near the river's source at the Gods Eye. Cottages, cabins, and farms are also in the vicinity.[1]
The Map of the South from A Dance with Dragons, the "Westeros" map from The Lands of Ice and Fire, and the "Riverlands" map from The World of Ice & Fire depict the Goldroad as running west from King's Landing, crossing the Gods Eye river, and then crossing south of the Blackwater.[2][3][4] "The Known World" and "The West" maps from The Lands of ice and Fire, however, depict the Goldroad as running south of the unnamed river's confluence with the Blackwater.[5][6]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
Yoren leads his group of recruits for the Night's Watch, including Arya Stark. He hopes to travel west of the Gods Eye to avoid traffic on the kingsroad.[7] Their route west is blocked by the river, however, and Woth reports that a wooden bridge has been burned up. Yoren instead leads them north to the unnamed town.[1]
Quotes
The river was a blue-green ribbon shining in the morning sun. Reeds grew thick in the shallows along the banks, and Arya saw a water snake skimming across the surface, ripples spreading out behind it as it went. Overhead a hawk flew in lazy circles.[1]
