Osfryd is a tall man with a hooked nose and a cruel smile.[2] He has long dark hair and a drooping black mustache.[3] Osfryd is taller and sterner than his brother Osney.[3] Osmund thinks that he and Osfryd are stronger than Osney.[4]
Osfryd and his brothers are amiable, being popular with both knights and servants and amorous with serving women.[3] Tyrion Lannister considers all three to be deceitful and unsavory,[5] but none as dangerous as Bronn.[6] Cersei Lannister considers Osfryd to be crueler and less friendly than his brothers.[7] All three siblings are illiterate.[8]
Osfryd wears a steel halfhelm.[3]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
Osfryd, along with his brothers, are used by Tyrion Lannister to infiltrate Queen Cersei Lannister's attempt to buy a force of sellswords for herself.[5]
Osfryd and Osney Kettleblack help bring Alayaya before Cersei.[2]
Osfryd becomes the captain of Cersei's new House Lannister guards,[9] and remains with the queen during the Battle of the Blackwater. When Osfryd reveals that three servants were caught trying to escape with horses, Cersei gives orders to have them executed by Ser Ilyn Payne.[3] Cersei also has Osfryd disperse merchants who seek refuge in the Red Keep.[3] As the battle intensifies, Cersei orders Osfryd to have King Joffrey I Baratheon brought inside Maegor's Holdfast.[10]
A Storm of Swords
Osfryd and Osney are given their knighthoods after the Battle of the Blackwater, though they took no part in the actual fighting,[11] and they serve as Cersei's sworn swords.[12] The Kettleblacks bring Prince Tommen Baratheon back from Rosby after the death of Ser Jacelyn Bywater.[11]
Sansa Stark sees Osfryd easily defeating Morros Slynt during training.[13]
All three of the Kettleblack brothers give evidence against Tyrion in his trial for the the murder of King Joffrey. Osfryd and Osney mention Tyrion's threats against Cersei, although they omit that Tyrion had done so after Alayaya was harmed.[6]
Osfryd, Osney, and Ser Garlan Tyrell guard King Tommen I Baratheon when Ser Jaime Lannister meets with the Kingsguard in White Sword Tower.[14]
Lord Petyr Baelish reveals to Sansa that the Kettleblacks have been in his employ all along, unbeknownst to Cersei and Tyrion.[15]
A Feast for Crows
After Lord Tywin Lannister is murdered and Tyrion disappears, Ser Osfryd and his brothers are ordered by Queen Cersei to dispose of the corpse of Shae. Cersei tells them that what they do with the corpse is of no concern.[16] Ser Boros Blount and the Kettleblacks also kill two gaolers on Cersei's orders, which upsets Jaime.[17]
After the departure of Ser Addam Marbrand, Osfryd is named by Cersei as his successor as Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing, despite his inexperience and inability to read.[7] Osfryd rides a golden stallion when Cersei visits the High Sparrow at the Great Sept of Baelor.[7]
Osney falsely confesses to the High Sparrow that he has slept with Margaery, and Cersei has Osfryd observe which nobles leave the throne room when the news becomes public.[8] Cersei has Osney and his gold cloaks arrest ten other men as well.[8]
After Cersei's own arrest by the Faith of the Seven, Osfryd is removed as commander by the small council, so that he cannot use the gold cloaks to come to Cersei and his brother Osney's aid. He is replaced by Humfrey Waters.[8]
A Dance with Dragons
Cersei falsely[1] confesses to bedding all three of the Kettleblack brothers.[18] As soon as Ser Kevan Lannister, the Lord Regent, hears this information, he has Osfryd and Osmund thrown into the dungeon of the Red Keep.[19] Kevan plans to send them to the Wall if they plead guilty. If they plead innocent, they will face Ser Robert Strong in trial by combat.[20]
Quotes
Sansa: Won't your guards protect us?
Cersei: And who will protect us from my guards? Loyal sellswords are rare as virgin whores.[9]
Osfryd was the middle Kettleblack, quieter than his siblings, more apt to scowl than smile. And crueler as well, if the tales are true.[7]
