Theomore Manderly was the Lord of White Harbor and the head of House Manderly during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.
Appearance and Character
Theomore had at least three sons and several daughters, as well as nieces and nephews. According to Queen Alysanne Targaryen, Theomore had a famously large family.[1]
Theomore grew stout in his old age. He was a skilled warrior and canny lord.[2]
History
One of Lord Theomore's household knights fostered a wildling girl who been captured by rangers of the Night's Watch.[1]
Theomore's daughter Mara served as a companion to Queen Alysanne Targaryen at Dragonstone in 55 AC. Lord Manderly lavishly entertained Alysanne when the queen visited White Harbor in 58 AC during a royal progress. Theomore served an aurochs at the welcoming feast, and his daughter, Jessamyn, acted as the queen's cupbearer. Theomore held a small tourney to honor the queen's honor and present his knights. Alysanne hosted a women's court in Lord Manderly's hall, something previously unheard of in the north.[1]
Theomore and Alysanne negotiated the betrothals of two of her ladies-in-waiting to Theomore's younger sons and a third to a nephew. His eldest daughter and three nieces joined the queen's own party as well, with the expectation they would be pledged to suitable lords and knights at the King's Landing court of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.[1]
In 58 AC Lord Manderly attended a tourney in the capital to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Jaehaerys's coronation.[1] One of Theomore's daughters married Lord Darklyn at Duskendale in 72 AC.[2] Queen Alysanne betrothed her daughter, Princess Viserra Targaryen, to Theomore, who had been four times a widower, in 86 AC. But the headstrong girl died before her departure to White Harbor, when she was thrown from her horse's saddle in the streets of King's Landing, in 87 AC.[2][3]
Legacy
At the start of the Dance of the Dragons, Theomore's great-grandson, Lord Desmond Manderly, used the failed betrothal of his ancestor as an argument to ensure the betrothal of his youngest daughter to Prince Joffrey Velaryon, the thirdborn son of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.[4]
Quotes
Alysanne: Theomore is a good man, a wise man, with a kind heart and a good head on his shoulders. His people love him.
Viserra: If you like him so much, Mother, you should marry him.[2]
